Make Your Medical Assistant Resume Work

Once you have finished your training and passed your certification test it’s time to start the job hunt and the most important job hunting tool will be your medical assistant resume. Your skills are in demand so you don’t need to be out of work very long.

Portray What They Want On Medical Assistant Resume

What your medical assistant resume is going to do for you is to make sure that potential employers know that you have what they want. You do that by making sure that the information is right out where they can read it without any extra effort. You also make sure that your qualifications are presented in a way that makes clear just how good you are.

It’s important that your resume look attractive and professional. It should be just eye-catching enough that a reader will pick it out of a stack to give it a second look. However nothing about it should suggest that you are attempting to resort to cheap gimmickry to attract attention.

Seek Help For Medical Assistant Resume

If you have attended a good training program your school will probably have a career center where you can find help on creating your medical assistant resume. Since it is such an important component of your job search you may want to consult a professional medical assistant resume service. You may want to have two different medical assistant resumes. A resume to be posted online will differ slightly from one designed to be printed and mailed.

You might want to look at a sample medical assistant resume online. You will see that there are several acceptable styles. The standard traditional style is called the reverse chronological style. This means that all educational experience and related job experience is listed beginning with the most recent.

This works well if all your educational and work experience are clearly related to the position you are applying for. However if you have a varied work background you need a format that emphasizes what you are actually able to do. If you don’t have a work history that shows uninterrupted employment under titles similar to the one you are applying for the reverse chronological may not work well for you.

A Functional Medical Assistant Resume

A functional resume highlights your skills and how they fit the job you are applying for. The only reason for mentioning a previous job is to show how it provided you with knowledge or a skill that you are now offering to your new employer.

Even your work Objective which is one of the first things the reader sees can be made to work dynamically. Usually the Objective line at the top of the page says something like, Seeking position as Medical Assistant. You can use that line on your medical assistant resume to indicate that you particularly want to use certain skills and in doing so you indicate that you have those skills.
